Resident Evil 4 Remake: Is It a True Remaster or a Letdown?

Why the Hype?

To understand the reason for the hype behind this remake. You have to have played the 2005 original release, as well as the Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes. The original Resident Evil 4 is the best game in the series, in my opinion. Add that, with Capcom’s meticulous remake process it demonstrated with Resident Evil 2 and 3. Its a recipe no Resident Evil fan could ignore.

Remake Glory!

The game features updated graphics that are stunning, with realistic lighting and attention to detail that bring the game’s environments to life. The controls have been improved, making them more intuitive and easier to use, while still maintaining the tension and challenge of the original game.

One of the standout features of the Resident Evil 4 Remake is the enhanced sound design. The game’s eerie and unsettling atmosphere is further heightened by the improved sound effects, which help to immerse the player in the game’s world. Need to find that Clockwork Castellan doll? Listen for it.

The game also introduces new content, such as additional weapons like the bolt thrower. Added features. Like the knife parry, which can stagger an enemy and leave it open for a massive blow. The optional side quests are also a nice addition , with plenty of nice rewards. The new features are seamlessly integrated into the game, and do not detract from the original experience.

Replayability woes

Capcom has a very nice formula to adding replayability to Resident evil games. This comes in the form of the new game plus. Where you unlock new weapons and ultimately, unlimited ammo . It’s extremely fun and satisfying gradually becoming over powered. To the point of killing any boss with a single shot. A slight tweak here left me with a sad face though. You can no longer purchase unlimited ammo for most weapons. Now they only include a select group of 4. These being the knife , Rocket launcher, Hand cannon, and the Chicago sweeper. This cuts down on how many times I’ll be replaying the game. Though admittedly not by much 🙂

Resident Evil 4 : Remake isn’t perfect?!

As I mentioned , there are a few changes that were made to the game. One of those changes came in a certain part of the game. Where you fight off enemies in a cage with Leon. The game now focuses on Ashley , and the entire cage fight scene is done off camera. I don’t mind the Ashley aspect , but they could have kept the cage fight. While the voice acting is very well done by most of the talent. Ashley being specially cute in her delivery. The new Ada felt a bit bland in her delivery. No ounce of emotion was felt there. Also the characters all felt a bit stiff, virtually no facial expressions. This was ok in the Ps2 era, but new gen can and should be able to handle facial expressions.

Lastly, the game comes at a $60 price tag! Bringing me to my biggest gripe. While Resident Evil 4 Remake does look beautiful. And it does have a few slight alterations. A game that already has the story, the characters, and the gameplay already fleshed out preproduction. Should not have the same price tag as a totally new game. If you’re a baller on a budget, you can pick up Resident Evil 4 the original. On almost any console. And get virtually the same enjoyable experience playing this masterpiece of a game, minus the prettier graphics. This isn’t a knock on Resident Evil 4 Remake game. Capcom gets a disappointing stare from me though.

Back on topic!

Overall, the Resident Evil 4 Remake is a great game that honors the original while improving on it in meaningful ways. It’s a must-play for fans of the survival horror genre and for anyone who wants to experience one of the greatest games of all time in a new and improved form.
