How to - Jailbreak / Hack PS4 on 9.00 Firmware

Why jailbreak/hack your PS4? For a retrogamer like myself, being able to run older games on a dedicated console is a god sent. On a jailbroken console we get this in the form of emulators. Running backups of games is a also very important. You can transfer all your physical owned games to digital format. (Store your games for collection). Install other operating systems, like Linux or steam. Lastly, modding your games ie. cheats, better framerates. As of now. The PS4 jailbreak/hack is tethered. Which means every time you reboot the ps4, you will need to jailbreak it.

If your here that means you want some of this. So let’s get on with it.

Make sure your PS4’s in 9.00 Firmware .

Get USB drive ready

You will need to create a magic USB drive to inject the jailbreak on the PS4. Any USB drive will work. I prefer these, as I can use them for other things later on.

Make sure there’s nothing on your USB drive. It will be formatted and converted to a magic USB drive.

Download the exfathax.img file from the pOOBs4 Jailbreak’s github.
Plug your USB stick into your computer.
Download and install a tool to write the img file to your usb stick, Win32 Disk Manager works good and is easy to use. Rufus also does the job
Write the img file you just downloaded onto your USB stick. Make sure you select the letter your USB drive is on.

Prep your PS4 to connect to the Internet

Make sure you turn off automatic downloads. Go to Settings > System > Automatic Downloads. Turn off all features.

Also turn off Power savings downloads. Go to Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode . Turn off Stay Connected to the Internet

Next connect your PS4 to the internet. You will want to set up a custom internet connection. that will direct you to the webpage to perform the hack. Only the dns settings will need to be changed.

2. “How do you want to set up the internet connection?” custom
3. “IP address Settings” automatic
4. “DHCP Host Name” Do Not Specify
5. “DNS Settings” Manual

6. “Proxy Server” Do Not Use
7. Test your internet connection.

Now for the Actual Jailbreak

Go to the PS4’s Web browser. The webpage should redirect you to the jailbreak page (https://cthugha.exploit.menu/ ) . If it doesn’t or if you don’t like that page. There are others that provide the same jailbreak. Though they will obviously look different in the interface.

Go to PS4 (9.00)
Gold HEN
Wait for the page to load. (doesn’t always happen) You might get an error message ” This page is not responding”. Click ok to close it. Open again
When you see the Insert USB now page. Insert USB Drive with the jailbreak to your PS4. DO NOT CLICK OK UNTIL YOU SEE. ” This USB storage device’s file system is unsupported“. When the prompt shows up, click ok.
If done correctly. You should see a prompt saying GoldHEN v2.0b2 loaded!
Unplug the USB Drive from the PS4 , close the exploit web page
Go to your settings
You should see a new menu item called GoldHEN. select it.
Turn on Binloader and FTP server
Congratulations your PS4 is jailbroken/Hacked. Now the fun begins. Loading all the good stuff on it!
Remember the Jailbreak/ hack is tethered. You will need to run the hack every time the PS4 reboots.
